DHL is a German owned express freight company founded in Germany and currently one of the largest air express freight companies in the world. DHL

In 1969, DHL opened their first express shipping route from San Francisco to Honolulu. The company's name "DHL" consists of the initials

 of the three founders' surnames (Dalsey, Hillblom, and Lynn). Soon, DHL Air Cargo expanded its routes to Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines,

 Australia, and Singapore. In the mid to late 1970s, DHL Air Cargo expanded its routes to South America, the Middle East, and Africa under the concept of DHL Air Cargo's commitment to establish a new network that provides global door to door express delivery services.


Starting in 2002, Deutsche Post controlled all of its equity and integrated its DHL Air Cargo, Danzas, and European Express into a new DHL

Air Cargo company. In 2003, Deutsche Post acquired Airborne Express from the United States and integrated it into DHL Air Cargo. In 2005, Deutsche Post acquired Exel plc from the UK and integrated it into DHL Air Cargo. By now, DHL Air Cargo Express has one of the most complete express networks in the world, reaching 120000 destinations in 220 countries and regions.


On January 26th, 2007, DHL announced the official launch of its cargo air transportation business in China.
